Data About School Shootings, Anxiety, and Gun Control

As seen in the graph, at January 3rd-9th, 2016 there is a spike for gun control. According to the article from New York Times, Mr. Obama was expected to move ahead during this week with a series of executive actions modifying federal gun laws.

 At June 12-18, 2016 there is another spike for gun control. According to a different New York Times article, on June 12, 2016, a gunman laid siege to a popular gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, killing 49 and wounding dozens more in a mass shooting that horrified the nation.

Between October 1-7 there is a spike in the graph for gun control. Accoring to a CNN article, on October 1st, a gunman fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on a crowd of 30,000 gathered on the Las Vegas Strip for the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. At least 58 people were killed and more than 515 injured. Police believe the gunman killed himself.

 The biggest spike in the graph for school shootings is at February 11-17, 2018. School shooting is at 100, anxiety at 88, and gun control at 36. On February 14, a 19-year-old man gunned down staff and students with a rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, slaughtering at least 17 unsuspecting students and adults. This shooting sent the country into shock and people became very scared, which contributed to the increase in anxiety as seen in the graph.
